Apple sues Samsung once more

DailyTech reports Apple is now going after Samsung smartphones and tablets in Germany:

Apple has been handed a number of losses recently in its lawsuits against Samsung in courts around the world. In late November, Samsung won an appeal overturning a ban on its Galaxy Tab 10.1. A German judge in late November then ruled against Apple after Samsung made changes to its Galaxy Tab 10.1 (the new revision was called the 10.1N) to skirt Apple's design infringement claims.

Naturally, those legal setbacks weren�t enough to dissuade Apple from following up with more lawsuits. Bloomberg is reporting that Apple has started up a fresh round of lawsuits against Samsung in Germany's Dusseldorf Regional Court. The first lawsuit takes aim at 10 Samsung smartphone designs. The second lawsuit targets five of Samsung's tablet computers.

Samsung uncovers second-gen Series 9 ultrabook

Slashgear writes Samsung has developed its second-generation Series 9 ultrabook. The new 15" model now weighs only 3.5lbs and is just 0.58-inches thick. Available in 13" and 15" editions, the new Series 9 offers Intel Core i3/i5 processor, up to 8GB DDR3, a 128/256GB SSD, a glass multitouch trackpad, a bootup time of just 9.8 seconds and a wake-from-sleep of 1.4 seconds.

Battery life is rated at up to 10hrs for the 15-inch model, despite Samsung using new, HD+ SuperBright Plus 1600 x 900 screens. These are apparently 180-percent brighter than the first-gen Series 9, and have anti-reflective coatings and 160-degree viewing angles. Both screen and keyboard backlighting are ambient light sensitive, adjusting automatically.

A glass multitouch trackpad, lashings of aluminum in the single-shell chassis, and even a special designer leather sleeve � an option � to hold it, round out the main specs. The new Samsung Series 9 2nd-gen is available in February, priced from $1,399 for the 13-inch and from $1,499 for the 15-inch.

Samsung and Micron create Hybrid Memory Cube consortium

Bright Side of News reports Micron and Samsung formed a Hybrid Memory Cube Consortium (HMCC):

Micron and Samsung are the founding partners and will collaborate closely with fellow developers Altera Corporation, Open Silicon, Inc., and Xilinx, Inc. to accelerate industry efforts in bringing to market a broad set of technologies. The consortium will initially define a specification to enable applications ranging from large-scale networking to industrial products and high-performance computing.

A primary industry challenge is the need for lower latency, higher bandwidth and lower power memory than the existing infrastructure can provide. The consortium aims to break the so called "memory wall" by utilizing a hybrid approach to satisfy these requirements.

Samsung shows off Photoshop Touch on new tablet

Legit Reviews saw a demonstration of Adobe's Photoshop Touch app on a new pen-enabled tablet from Samsung at the Adobe MAX 2011 conference in LA.

You will see in the video that this new tablet had the form factor of the recently released Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9. What is even more interesting is that this Android-powered tablet was running Adobe's newest "Touch App" - Photoshop Touch.

Samsung sues Apple over iPhone 4S

The patent war between Apple and Samsung flares up again as Samsung said it will file patent suits to ban sales of the upcoming iPhone 4S in France and Italy. The South Korean electronics giant claims Apple's new smartphone violates two patents related to WCDMA standards for 3G mobile handsets:

Samsung's preliminary injunction requests in France and Italy will each cite two patent infringements related to wireless telecommunications technology, specifically Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (WCDMA) standards for 3G mobile handsets. The infringed technology is essential to the reliable functioning of telecom networks and devices and Samsung believes that Apple�s violation as being too severe and that the iPhone 4S should be barred from sales.

"Apple has continued to flagrantly violate our intellectual property rights and free ride on our technology. We believe it is now necessary to take legal action to protect our innovation," a statement by Samsung reads.

Samsung plans to file preliminary injunctions in other countries after further review.

Samsung creates first 30-nm class LPDDR3

Samsung announced the creation of world's first LPDDR3 using a 30nm-class process technology. The company claims this is the most advanced green mobile memory solution.

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd, a global leader in advanced semiconductor technology solutions, announced today that it has developed the industry�s first monolithic four gigabit (Gb) LPDDR3 (low power double-data-rate 3) memory using 30 nanometer (nm) class* technology for mobile applications such as smartphones and tablet PCs, at the eighth annual Samsung Mobile Solutions Forum held at the Westin Taipei. LPDDR3 DRAM is needed to support faster processors, high resolution displays and 3D graphics in high-end next generation mobile devices

�Samsung is offering the most advanced green mobile memory solution by developing the industry�s first 30nm-class 4Gb-based LPDDR3 packages,� said Wanhoon Hong, executive vice president, memory sales & marketing, Device Solutions, Samsung Electronics. �Samsung will keep working closely with mobile device designers to deliver high-performance mobile solutions, while expanding the next-generation mobile memory market.�

The new 4Gb LPDDR3 DRAM can transfer data at up to 1,600 megabits per second (Mbps), which is approximately 1.5 times faster than the industry�s current highest performance LPDDR2, which operates at 1,066Mbps. The new component also consumes 20 percent less electrical power than its predecessor.

In addition, by stacking two 4Gb chips, Samsung is enabling use of a single 1GB LPDDR3 package, with a data transmission rate up to 12.8 gigabytes (GB) per second.

Starting next quarter, Samsung will begin sampling the 4Gb-based LPDDR3 chips to key mobile device providers. The chips are expected to be widely adopted next year in advanced mobile applications including next-generation smartphones and tablet PCs.

To accommodate the growing need for higher density mobile memory solutions to process large amount of data, the maximum amount of mobile DRAM in high-end mobile devices will grow from 1GB (8Gb) up to 2GB (16Gb) by early next year. These densities will be available by stacking four 4Gb LPDDR3 chips.

According to a research report from IHS iSuppli, the market for LPDDR3 DRAM will expand sharply starting in 2013. Samsung will be readying the market by mass producing more components in 2012 therein encouraging faster adoption of premium mobile DRAM solutions throughout the mobile electronics industry.

Samsung reveals the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus tablet

Samsung added the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus to its tablet lineup. This new 7-incher features a 1024 x 600 pixel resolution and packs a 1.2GHz dual-core processor. The Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus is available in 16GB and 32GB variants and runs Android 3.2 "Honeycomb". Other features include a 3MP digicam with 720p video recording, 802.11a/b/g/n WiFi, quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE and 3G with 21Mbps HSPA and GPS support. The tablet will ship in late October but pricing is still unknown.

Samsung shows off new 3D LED TVs

Samsung developed new 3D LED TVs, pictured below are the 27" 9 Series (27TA950) and 7 Series (27TA750). These panels offer a Full HD resolution and are now available in South-Korea.

Available in two different versions with the asymmetric 9 Series (27TA950) and 7 Series (27TA750), these 27� full HD TVs comes with Samsung Ultra Clear Panel Technology, as well as Samsung TV Apps and Smart Hub with the addition of Connect Share allowing you access to media via your TV USB port.

Finally Samsung announced an immediate availability of these TVs in Korea and you should expecting something like 8.9 Million Won for the 27TA950 (Around 8000 USD or 5700�) and 8.4 Million Won for the 27TA750 (7500 USD or 5300�)
