Intel Lynx Point chipset details revealed

Tom's Hardware dug up details about Lynx Point, the new chipset that will accompany Intel's Haswell architecture in the first half of 2013, probably around March to June. Full details over here.

First, we see some of the display port features have been transferred over to the CPU under the new architecture for Haswell. As discussed here, the Lynx Point chipset will only handle analog displays, while the CPU will be handling the digital displays. In theory, this makes the Lynx Point not as advanced as Panther Point in that regard but it does still have its advancements.

Lynx Point marks Intel's switch to full SATA 6.0 Gb/s support for all native SATA ports (no more native SATA 3.0 Gb/s SATA ports). Intel has added two additional USB 3.0 ports for a total six ports, which is two more than Panther Point. Intel is introducing I/O port flexibility feature with Lynx Point. As the feature suggests, it should give users the ability to allocate which ports are USB 3.0 and which are USB 2.0. Additional features for Lynx Point include: SSD performance/power optimization, new Rapid Storage Technology driver & Intel vPro Technology enhancements, lower TDP and power usage, a smaller package (22x23mm FCBGA), and support for quad-read SPI devices. Based on the slide, it looks like Intel has still not moved to a faster DMI interface, as the chipset's PCIe ports are still running at PCIe 2.0.

Swiftech Komodo Radeon HD 7970 waterblock revealed

TechPowerUp found pictures of Swiftech's upcoming Komodo full-coverage waterblock for AMD's Radeon HD 7970 graphics card. Pricing and availability is unknown.

Called the Komodo HD 7970, the block confines itself to the size of one expansion slot with an included single-slot bracket. The monolithic black design adds a lot to the aesthetics of the card, including its fittings area. The primary material of the block is nickel-plated copper. The portion of the block over the GPU has a 0.25x0.25 Micro Pin matrix, which maximizes heat dissipation to the coolant. Unlike other full-coverage blocks where a portion of the block that doesn't have flowing coolant makes contact with the VRM, the Komodo HD 7970 has "active" VRM cooling, where the area over the VRM has its own coolant chamber, and is part of the coolant's primary flow.

Intel storage tech roadmap details revealed

VR Zone has some details about Intel's new storage technology, you can read it over here.

Along with its multi-billion dollar push for Ultrabooks and Atom based mobile devices, Intel is preparing a serious entrance into the world of enterprise-class storage with its chipsets. As we all know, while Intel had enterprise features in platforms such as vPro and the enterprise line-up - using an on-board storage controller was a big no-no if you needed reliability and quick rebuilds.

It took some time, and we even saw disabling Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) from Panther Point (7-Series chipset) since it was producing a number of errors. Of course, we cannot forget the catastrophic Sandy Bridge (CPU)/Cougar Point (6-Series chipset) launch with the recall of said chipsets and a billion dollar loss. The reason was of course, erroneous storage controller.

In 2012, it looks like Intel learned its lesson and the company is bringing serious improvements with its Rapid Storage Technology software suite 11.5 and 11.6 (Windows 8 refresh).

Cooler Master takes the wraps off its X6 Elite CPU cooler:

Adding to the excitement, another announcement includes a CPU Cooler with a unique honeycomb fin structure, the X6 Elite CPU Cooler. This fin structure is used in conjunction with an angled base that acts as a means to increase overall airflow throughout the chassis. Clever air duct deployment on the outer shell directs airflow to pass over critical cooling areas. X6 Elite also comes equipped with a high performance PWM controlled fan.

X6 Elite will be available for $49.99 USD MSRP at retailers and online locations that carry your favorite Cooler Master products in Q1 2012.

SilverStone TJ04-E mid-tower case revealed

SilverStone revealed the TJ04-E at CES 2012, the successor to the TJ04 case which was launched in 2004. This new mid-tower is currently available for pre-order at 129EUR, with availability slated for later this month.

Known as the TJ04-E (E is for Evolution), the new chassis has an exterior that resembles the TJ04, but comes with a 'vastly' improved interior that can hold up to four 5.25-inch drives, nine 3.5-ich hard drives, six SSDs, and graphics cards up to 17 inches long.The TJ04-E measures 214 (W) x 489 (H) x 489 (D) mm, it weights 9.6 kg, and features a steel structure, an aluminum front panel, ATX and micro ATX motherboard support, tool-free mounting for 5.25-inch drives, a custom HDD cage with built-in heatsinks and SATA cables, an I/O panel with two USB 3.0 ports, three pre-installed 120 mm fans (one on top, one on the right panel, one at the rear), and, optionally, a side window.

Palit GeForce GTX 560 Ti Twin Light Turbo revealed

TC Mag published a picture and the specifications of the Palit GeForce GTX 560 Ti Twin Light Turbo graphics card. The pricing and availability of this custom model with overclocked clockspeeds is unknown.

As its name suggests, Palit's card makes use of the Twin Light Turbo cooler which takes up two slots, packs four copper heatpipes, two fans, and can brag with a sound output of under 10 dBA. Other goodies include 384 CUDA Cores, a 256-bit memory interface, 1GB of GDDR5 VRAM, 2-way SLI support, and D-Sub, dual DVI, plus HDMI outputs.

Sharkoon Vaya Value Edition cases revealed

Sharkoon introduced the Vaya Value Edition, a new case series with USB 3.0 support and a side window. The cases are available in all-black and all-white designs, retail pricing is said to be 39.90EUR.

In July, Sharkoon presented a competitive priced ATX case with the introduction of the 25 euro Sharkoon Vaya model. Now a Value Edition with a USB3.0 interface and side window is provided.

The Value Edition replaces one of the two USB2.0 ports on the standard design with a SuperSpeed USB3.0 interface. In lieu of the side air intake with pre-drilled air holes, the Value Edition offers a large acrylic side window, allowing insight into the PC while the internal illumination is benefiting operation. Sharkoon offers the Value Edition in two color versions: a black case with red LED front fan, and a white case with blue LED front fan.

The other specifications match the Standard design: The ATX case, with black exterior and interior finish, offers room for four 5.25" hard drives, four internal 3.5" hard drives, an external 3.5" hard drive and seven extension cards. The cooling capacity of the pre-installed, red illuminating 120 mm fan on the front panel can be further supported by installing an 80, 92 or 120 mm fan to the backside. Optical drives and hard drives are secured with the practical quick-locking clamps; the main board tray is equipped with a cooler mount opening and cable feedthrough. The power supply mount is attached to the bottom of the case. USB2.0 and USB3.0 ports are located together and easily accessible with the audio terminals, Power and Reset buttons on the case front. In the backside you will find two rubber-protected feedthroughs for water cooling tubes.

The Sharkoon Vaya Value measures 465 x 185 x 440 mm (L x W x H) and empty weight is 5 Kg. The case allows the installation of graphic cards up to 27 cm and power supplies up to 28.5 cm in length, and CPU coolers up to 15.5 cm in height. Shipping includes a comprehensive accessory kit and a detailed instruction manual is available on the Sharkoon website for download.

Nox Xtreme Hummer 3.0 full-tower case revealed

TC Mag reports Nox Xtreme introduced the Hummer 3.0, a new full-tower steel case that supports micro ATX, ATX, E-ATX, XL-ATX and Flex-ATX motherboards. It measures 610mm x 232mm x 520mm (H x W x D) and is sold in Europe for around 109.90.

Nox's PC case comes with an all-black coating, a top-plated I/O panel with USB 3.0 (x 2), USB 2.0 (x 2) and eSATA (x 2) ports, a built-in, 2-channel fan controller, six 5.25-inch bays, six internal 3.5/2.5-inch bays, four pre-drilled holes for watercooling tubing (all are at the back), and is equipped with four fans - one 230mm model with white LEDs in front, plus two 140mm spinners on top, and another 140mm fan at the rear.

Cooler Master GeminII M4 low-profile CPU cooler revealed

Next month Cooler Master will ship the GeminII M4, a new ultra-low profile CPU cooler that measures 137mm x 122mm x 59mm. The cooler weighs 289g, it has four direct-touch heatpipes, aluminium fins and a 120mm XtraFlo slim fan with sleeve bearing. The fan spins at 500 to 1600RPM and promises a noise level between 8-30dBA.

The intented target market is Mini-ITX systems, HTPCs and other small form factor systems.
