Corsair debuts 480GB Force 3 and Force GT SSDs

Corsair added three new solid state disks to its lineup; a 480GB Force GT unit and 180GB and 480GB Force 3 models.
Corsair, a worldwide designer and supplier of high-performance components to the PC gaming hardware market, today announced worldwide retail availability of the 480 GB Force Series GT SSD and 180GB and 480GB Force Series 3 SSDs.

As solid-state drives reach wider adoption rates, Corsair's new SSD models address growing market demand for fast, high-capacity drives. The 180GB Force Series 3 targets consumers and IT professionals who want an affordable step up from 120GB, and the 480GB models are ideal for high-performance notebook PC users who require massive SSD storage capacity in a single drive. The top of the line 480GB Force Series GT SSD is designed for video editing, competitive gaming, and other applications for which extraordinary performance is required.

"As one of the leaders in high-performance solid state drives, we're pleased to offer a full range of SSD models to address customers' needs for high performance, high-capacity storage.", said Thi La, Vice President of Memory Products at Corsair.

Force Series GT: Designed for enthusiasts who demand the fastest performance available
Force Series GT SSDs use the SandForce SF-2280 SSD Processor, with native support for SATA 6Gb/s (SATA 3), combined with ONFI synchronous flash memory. Force Series GT SSD upgrades deliver outstanding read/write performance and significantly faster system response, boot times, and application load times than SATA 2 solid-state drives, with out-of-box performance of up to 85K Random Write IOPS, read speeds of up to 555 MB/s, and write speeds of up to 525 MB/s. The use of synchronous flash memory makes the Force GT Series particularly adept at reading and writing non-compressible data, such as video and music files.

Force Series 3: Fast and Flexible SSDs for high-performance PCs
Force Series 3 SSDs use the SandForce SF-2280 SSD Processor combined with asynchronous flash memory technology to deliver strong value and SATA 6Gb/s performance. The Force Series 3 has out-of-box read and write speeds of up to 550 MB/s and 520 MB/s respectively, and up to 85K Random Write IOPS for measurably faster system response, boot times and application load times.

All Force Series 3 and Force Series GT models are also backward compatible with SATA 2, and include an easy-to-use 3.5" adapter for use in both laptop and desktop PCs.

The new Force Series 3 and Force Series GT SSD models are available from authorized distributors and retailers worldwide at a US suggested retail price of $249 USD for the Force Series 3 180GB, $799 for the Force Series 3 480GB, and $999 for the Force Series GT 480GB.

Note that stated capacities are unformatted and actual capacities will vary depending on the formatting and operating system used.

Corsair rolls out 8GB Vengeance and Value Select DDR3 modules

Corsair introduced its first 8GB DDR3 memory modules. There's a 8GB Vengeance module that runs at 1600MHz with 10-10-10-27 timings at 1.5V, and also a 8GB Value Select edition that runs at 1333MHz with 9-9-9-24 timings at 1.5V.
Corsair Vengeance: High Performance and Overclockability
The new 8GB Vengeance DDR3 memory operates at 1.5V for compatibility with the new 2nd generation Intel Core processor family and is guaranteed to operate at 1600MHz. Providing 8GB of rigorously-screened DRAM on a single module allows gamers and performance enthusiasts to build systems with 32GB of high-performance memory.

"Vengeance DDR3 memory is the premier choice for reliable, overclockable DRAM for system builders on a budget," said Giovanni Sena, Director of Memory Products at Corsair. "Our kits based on 8GB modules give builders, system integrators, and gaming enthusiasts the power to break the 16GB barrier."

Corsair Value Select: Guaranteed Reliability for Mainstream Computing
Carefully screened for reliable operation and backed by Corsair's lifetime warranty, Value Select DDR3 memory upgrade kits are an ideal choice for standard home and office PCs. Many laptop PCs are equipped with only two memory slots, which has traditionally limited them to just 8GB of memory. Value Select 8GB DDR3 memory modules allow notebook upgrades to 16GB, and give them the power to smoothly run multiple applications and open several large files at once.

"Otherwise-powerful laptop PCs are often underequipped when it comes to memory, which can cause usability problems with office application suites and complex documents that notebook PC users need to work with in the real world." said Sena. "8GB Value Select memory modules solve this problem."

Corsair says bad batch of H100 coolers have fan speed issues

Corsair confirmed that some of its Hydro Series H100 watercooling solutions have fan controller issues. The company says the problems are limited to units with lot code 11359403, details on how to fix the issue can be found at Corsair.
We have seen a number of posts by people who are having problems using the fan controller on their H100. If you are having similar problems, this post will give you some guidance on how to get the issue resolved.

First of all, we have posted an article on our web site about the H100 performance profiles and how they are used. You can find this article here.

If you are convinced the performance profiles are not working correctly, please read the following:

We have identified an issue with some of the components included in a small number of H100 units with lot code 11359403 only. You can find your lot code on the printed label on your H100 box. If you have this lot code, test your installed unit while the system is running by pressing the profile change button. If you push the profile button on the top of the cooling unit and the indicator lights change, but the fan noise remains the same, we recommend contacting Corsair technical support at ramguy@corsair.com to arrange for some replacement parts that will correct this problem.

However, if you push the profile button on the top of the cooling unit and the indicator lights DO NOT change, you may try one of two steps:

  • You can reset the firmware on the unit, which in many cases will solve the problem, or
  • You can contact Corsair customer service and arrange for an advance replacement (credit card required) of your unit.

To reset the firmware, use the following procedure:

    1. While the computer is running, hold down the profile button for approximately five seconds
    2. Wait one minute, while the unit continues to run
    3. Shut down your computer
    4. Press and hold the profile button for five seconds while turning on the power to your computer.

If resetting the firmware does not fix the issue, or if the issue re-occurs, please contact customer service to arrange for a replacement unit. Begin this replacement process using the RMA Link that is on the left sidebar of every forum page.

Corsair AX1200 1200W Power Supply Review

Corsair AX1200 1200W Power Supply Review

    Introduction

Six years ago, loading a true enthusiast machine down with all the hardware you could muster meant that you were pulling no more than 600W-700W, and finding a power supply to handle that kind of load was nearly impossible. Since then we've seen a huge change in the hardware that enthusiasts utilize in their rigs. SLI brought about multi-GPU systems that required more power than ever.

We've seen a switch from using a single desktop processor overclocked to the max to dual processors with multiple cores still overclocked to the max. Let's not even get into everything else that has evolved inside the computer. All of this is great, if you have the power to feed all of it. These days you'll need a minimum of 1000W to power a high end enthusiast machine - maybe even more.

While you have your selection of vendors for motherboards, memory, storage, and more, finding a power supply to fit the bill of such a machine produces few options. The last 12-18 months have brought some more selections, such as the Corsair Professional Series AX1200 that we are taking a look at today. The AX1200 is Corsair's flagship power supply. It is the biggest, meanest beast that they offer.

This PSU boasts an 80Plus Gold rating, has enough connections and power available to run two or three "normal" computers, and has a whole lot of other features to go with it. What matters most of course, is how the AX1200 performs. Nobody wants their rig shutting down in the middle of intensive use when it is needed most. Keep reading to find out all about the Corsair AX1200 and how it performs.
